Bangkok & Music — Thailand Nightlife FAQs
Choose a question to read the answer. Find practical details, exceptions and sources for your night out.
Khao San, Sukhumvit, Thonglor or RCA: which Bangkok area should I choose?
Start with the kind of night you want. Khao San and nearby Old Town streets are useful for an informal bar-and-live-music evening. Sukhumvit Soi 11 has a compact mix of clubs and rooftops; Thonglor and Ekkamai offer another mix of clubs, bars and music rooms. RCA is a starting point for large electronic club nights. Silom combines LGBTQ+ venues with other bars and clubs, while Chinatown and the riverside suit cocktails and smaller listening or live-music spaces. Choose a nearby cluster and check each venue's programme.

Where should I start if I want a music-focused club night in Bangkok?
Pick the music first, then the venue and district. RCA has large electronic rooms such as Onyx and VOID; Sugar on Soi 11 focuses on hip-hop. Sing Sing offers a theatrical room and different music programmes by night. For smaller electronic spaces, look at Culture Cafe, Clutch, Mustache and Subwerk, then check the current artist listing. A famous name does not guarantee the same sound every night. Use official calendars and published event pages to choose a specific session.

How do I find Bangkok's underground house and techno scene?
Follow a particular artist or promoter as well as a room. Check Bangkok's Resident Advisor listings, then confirm the date, address and admission through the organiser's official account. Culture Cafe, Clutch, Bar Temp., Mustache and Subwerk offer starting points, with programmes that can differ from a large EDM club. Listening bars and club nights also have different expectations about dancing and conversation. Look for a current announcement rather than assuming an old venue guide still applies.

Where can I find EDM, hip-hop, house, techno or live music in Bangkok?
Use the music filter as a starting point, then check the night's programme. RCA's larger clubs are useful for EDM; Sugar Club on Soi 11 publishes a hip-hop focus. House and techno appear in smaller club and listening-room programmes across Sukhumvit, Silom and Old Town. For live music, compare blues at Adhere the 13th, bands at Speakerbox or Brick Bar, and jazz at Smalls, Foojohn, Saxophone or The Bamboo Bar. Tep Bar offers a different starting point for Thai sounds. Guest artists and special events can change the usual format.

Where should I start for LGBTQ+ nightlife in Bangkok?
Silom is a useful first area to explore. Soi 2 includes DJ Station, while Soi 4 has bars and drag-focused venues such as The Stranger Bar. Other spaces and independent queer parties offer different music and crowds elsewhere in Bangkok. Read the venue's own description and the current event listing, especially if you want a particular drag show, electronic night or sapphic programme. Respect the community and venue etiquette, and ask before photographing performers or guests.
