What is the legal drinking age in Thailand, and will clubs check my ID?
Thailand's legal drinking age is 20. Expect an age check at a licensed nightclub and carry the identification that the venue requires. Being a tourist does not make you exempt. Restaurants, hotel bars and family-friendly festivals may have different admission policies, but admission never overrides the alcohol age restriction. Confirm your chosen venue's minimum age before booking a ticket or table.

Do I need my original passport, or will a photo or copy work?
Check with the venue before leaving your hotel. Acceptance of a phone photo or copy is a door policy, not a universal rule. Some clubs and festivals require original government-issued photo ID; EDC Thailand explicitly does. Keep a passport copy for reference, but do not assume it will satisfy a club's age check. Protect the original in a secure bag when it is required, and do not leave it as a deposit with a rental business.

Are Thai music festivals 18+ or 20+, and do they check ID?
Read the current edition's entry terms. EDC Thailand is 20+ and requires original photo ID, while Wonderfruit offers teen and family passes as well as adult tickets. Halfmoon publishes its own age policy and conditions. These differences do not change Thailand's drinking age of 20. Do not plan around accounts of a relaxed check at a previous event: your ticket, identification and age must match the organiser's current rules.

Can I wear shorts and flip-flops to Bangkok clubs?
Dress rules vary, so check the specific venue. Closed shoes and a neat outfit are a useful starting point for city clubs and rooftops. Sugar Club prohibits flip-flops, vests and tank tops; Sing Sing's tourism-board listing specifies smart casual with no shorts, open-toe shoes or singlets. A beach-club outfit may not work at an evening venue. Pack long trousers and covered shoes if you want to keep several options open, and ask about any special-event dress code.

Why might a club refuse entry or ask my group to book a table?
Capacity, dress, age, reservations and the night's table arrangements can all affect admission. Before paying, ask the official booking team whether general-entry tickets are available for your group, whether a table is required, and what the total cost includes. A reservation is not permission to ignore the door rules. If a policy or the treatment you receive makes you uncomfortable, choose another venue. Keep written booking terms and receipts for any formal complaint.

Do I need a table, and why do some Thai clubs feel different from a dance floor?
At some larger Thai clubs, groups gather around reserved tables with bottle service, and the room can feel more social than a conventional open dance floor. Other venues put the DJ booth and dancing at the centre. Look at the floor plan and recent photos, then ask whether a general-entry guest has a standing or dancing area. A table suits a group that wants a base for the night; it is not essential at every venue. Choose the particular programme as well as the club.
